Our Early Intervention Class
About the early intervention class
The Department of education operates a number of Early Intervention classes across NSW specifically for children three to six years of age with confirmed disabilities. The class is part of Pendle Hill Public School and is staffed with a qualified teacher, who has special education qualification. The class also has a school learning support officer who assists with the implementation of the program.
There are two main support programs provided by early intervention
- Early intervention support class sessions provide individualised learning programs in a class of five to seven children. Children usually attend for 2.5 hour sessions, two or three days a week.
- Early Intervention resource support is a collaborative approach where the early intervention teacher works with the child's regular childcare centre or preschool to support the child and the staff at that centre. Up to seven children are included in the resource support program.
How to apply
Entry to the early intervention class is managed by the Department of Education learning and well being team. Applications must be submitted through your local school. For an application to be submitted the local school will need to determine if a child is eligible in terms of the Department of Education guidelines and collect some other information. Contact your local school from Term 1 if you areĀ considering early intervention application for your child. The completed application is submitted to a district panel. The first panel to considerĀ Early Intervention applications is held in Week 3 of Term 4 each year. Many applications are received and places are limited.
